Countries to Cities... and Some Other Changes

Today has been a fairly steady one, with most of the work focused on getting the setting and atmosphere a little closer to what I want for the game.

Countries are out. Cities are in.

One thing that had been bothering me was the travel system using countries rather than cities. That never really fitted the direction I'm taking Way of the Mafia, so that's now been changed.

The game currently has seven American cities to travel between, which already feels much more appropriate for the late-80s/early-90s mafia setting I'm aiming for.

The currency has changed too.

I've switched the game from pounds (£) to dollars ($). It's a small change, but one that makes a surprisingly big difference to the overall feel.

The cars are getting an overhaul

The Ferrari Enzos, Mitsubishi Evos and Fiat Puntos are on their way out, and they're being replaced with cars that actually belong in the period.

Expect plenty of:

  • Cadillacs
  • Lincolns
  • Big American saloons
  • Classic late-80s and early-90s cars

The aim is to make the streets feel much more believable for the setting rather than having modern or completely out-of-place cars appearing in the game.

Nothing revolutionary today, just a few more pieces being moved into place to make the world feel a bit more consistent.
